Enhanced Resource Base

The Enhanced Resource Base is funded by Derby City Council to provide support for students with Visual Impairment and /or Physical Impairment. Admissions are controlled by the Local Authority and are open to students with a statement of SEN or those who are at School Action Plus.

Students spend as much time as they are able to as members of classes in the main school but may be withdrawn for specific activities such as: Braille teaching, touch typing, the delivery of physiotherapy programmes or booster lessons for literacy and numeracy, as appropriate.

In addition to school subjects, students have the opportunity to learn vital independence skills in our purpose built independence training centre and work towards accredited courses in this area from Year 10 onwards.  Students in the Sixth Form who do not wish to study traditional A level subjects can be offered individualised courses which include independence skills and areas of vocational interest.

The Department has a Director of Learning, 2 qualified teachers for visual impairment and a teacher specialised in teaching students with SEN. There are a team of highly skilled Learning Support Assistants as well as an Office Manager, an IT Technician and a Resource Technician who all ensure that students have the correct equipment and modified work to enable them to access their lessons.
