Face Coverings

Government guidance on the wearing of face masks in schools has now been revised.

Saint Benedict Academy has made the decision that pupils will need to wear a face mask when moving between lessons, and at break and lunchtimes only.

Pupils and staff will not wear face masks during lessons.

School Transport

Notts and Derby will continue to run our school buses as normal, following their usual routes and timetables. All pupils using the school bus must wear a face covering unless they are exempt from doing so. Those who are exempt must communicate with Miss Cwynar prior to returning to school.

As we operate a dedicated transport service, the DfE guidance therefore does not limit numbers on buses. However, wherever possible, we encourage parents and carers to make alternative transport arrangements in order to reduce the numbers travelling on these buses.

All pupils will be seated in dedicated year group locations on each bus.

Drivers will have distancing procedures in place eg glass screens and loading/offloading procedures to limit contact.

Free School Meals

To check your eligibility for Free School Meals please visit this GOV.UK page.

Families with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) should use this form to apply for temporary free school meals.

For parents of children eligible for free school meals:

A few weeks ago you will have received vouchers which were purchased through the Saint Ralph Sherwin multi academy trust through a company named Sodexo. These vouchers covered the days up to and including Tuesday 14 April.

Since then the government have issued guidance for all schools to use a company they have contracted nationally named Edenred who will issue vouchers in a similar manner.

Unfortunately there have been some issues with this company who have struggled to cope with the demand from schools.

We are in the process of applying to Edenred for a four week voucher for each child which we will be sending out to you as soon as we possibly can. This will cover this week plus the following three weeks during which the government have announced the lockdown will continue.

Please accept our apologies that the vouchers are not with you already, this has been an issue for schools nationally. Please also be assured that we will continue to work with Edenred to ensure the matter is resolved as a matter of urgency.

In the meantime if you have any urgent concern or issue please do not hesitate to contact us on

Kind regards,
Kevin Gritton.
