Saint Benedict Year 6 summer school 2021

During the summer holidays this year, Saint Benedict held our own fun packed summer school!

A week for each half of the year, with students from the SAINT half average attendance 76 pupils , BEDCO 70 pupils. Each day a mixture of Maths and English activities were delivered and then and getting to know each other activities. At the end of each day, we gathered to show off skills learned that day by volunteer pupils.
Teamwork day – Students took part in creating an assembly to introduce everyone, all took part and some great talent on show after visit of ice cream van.
Samba drumming – A really good session of rhythmic drumming led by Caroline. All pupils engaged totally and showcased their drumming skills at end to the rest of the group.
Circus Skills – Everyone achieved a skill by end of the day, be it juggling, hoopla-ing or spinning plates. Students were up on the stage demonstrating  what they had learned to the rest of the group.
They also took part in a PE assault course with prizes for fastest to complete the course of obstacles, climbing, jumping and tasks
Drama creation – A pirate-based theme on the adventure they were about to begin.  Again, students were all on stage showcasing their incredible talents.
Students were making play doh models of what the week meant to them. We saw a wide and varied range of models.  Some of the main words used were ‘friends’ and ‘fun.’   We also had an Inflatable course fun competitions on the bungee run.
All week
Other highlights of both weeks were;
  • Balloon modelling, making swords, animals ,  planes and more
  • PE each day in teams, BEDCO forms also tasted technology and made key rings using the laser cutter
  • An egg drop competition of which over two weeks seven eggs from 33 survived !!

Students also received a hot lunch plus snack and drink at break provided by our wonderful kitchen staff.

In short, a great time was had by all involved!
